GROOMING

Father’s Day Grooming Gift Guide

If you’ve read anything on my blog or follow me on Instagram, you know I am A) a sucker for a good grooming product and; 2) have tried so many grooming products it’s insane. So here are a few grooming goodies that any dad will love opening up.

Manly Moisturizers

I recently discovered Olivina Men and Oh My Gosh. First off, the scents are amazing. All of their products are derived from essential oils so you’ve got great cedar and sandalwood and patchouli and it results in some killer scented products. But, even more importantly, all of their products use natural ingredients like olive oil, hemp and essential oils so they’re not causing harm with unnecessary toxins. And what’s good for dad is good for everyone in the long run. But no joke guys, I started using their body moisturizer and it has done wonders for my skin. I am a guy that washes his hands often (and since having a baby I swear I’ve doubled my hand washing). So my skin, particularly my knuckles and skin between my thump and forefinger are always cracked and dry. Since I started using their body moisturizer my hands are completely healed.

As for face moisturizers, I love Baxter of California’s Oil Free Moisturizer and they now have a version that includes SPF 15 which is great for the summer when we all spend more time outside (even though you should use sun protection year round).

To Beard Or Not To Beard

First off, Lab Series just launched this new grooming oil. Here’s the cool thing. It can be used as a pre-shave to help lubricate and soften your facial hair. You can use it alone as a way to shave your face (did this recently and loved how it worked). And, for the dad that doesn’t shave at all, it can be used as a beard oil to keep his beard soft and healthy. Talk about a gift for any dad on your list, clean-shaven or bearded.

I just got my hands on this safety razor from Olivina Men and combined with their shave soap, I feel like I’ve finally mastered the art of shaving. Since I keep some facial hair, I try to finish with a beard oil like this one from Beardbrand. It helps soften my beard which has become imperative if I ever want to snuggle my baby girl–she hates the stubble! So a soft beard makes for a happy baby. NOTE: A selection of Beardbrand and Olivina Men products are available at select Target stores.

Finishing Touches

Most men stop after shaving and moisturizing (if that) but there’s an entire world of grooming goodies out there that can take Dad’s grooming routine to the next level. Everything from anti-aging serums and eye creams to anti-wrinkle nighttime moisturizers. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Kiehls Age Defender Moisturizer – I use this moisturizer at night to help ward off the wrinkles that are on their way.
  • Lab Series Instant Eye Lift – I apply this under my eyes in the morning. It helps to repair tired skin around your eyes and fight dark circles (which I seem to have plenty of now that I have  newborn).
  • Kiehls Eye Repair – I use this eye repair at night. I prefer this one at night because it has a slightly heavier feel that I don’t particularly enjoy for day.
  • Kiehls Facial Fuel Lip Balm – I recently started using this lip balm and I love it. It’s one of the few lip balms I’ve met that doesn’t leave my lips shiny like a thirteen year old girl. Oh, and it works amazing too.
  • Anti-wrinkle serums – So I have two of these that I love. One is from Anthony and it has a more liquid texture. And the other is from Kiehls and has more of a cream texture. Both great, both fight wrinkles.
  • Hair products – My current favorite hair products are from Baxter of California. Love their Hard Water Pomade and Hard Cream Pomade. But, I recently tried out Kiehls Texturizing Clay and it’s pretty amazing. To be honest, I switch it up daily and I sometimes combine different products to make my own. It just depends on how my hair is that day and what I’m feeling like doing to it.
