Summer gets expensive. It’s a couple months into summer and I’ve partaken in a few too many wine lunches, dinners out and planned a pretty great vacation (I leave in 3 weeks!) so it’s to try to save a bit. That’s where getting a little creative is key. Particularly for Fridays. By Friday I’m so over work that I’ve lost all will power to save money, eat healthy or only drink one glass of wine. I’m not going to lie, I hardly ever achieve that last goal. So summer Fridays are all about finding ways to take part in everything I enjoy about summer without causing my bank account to go into shock. Go on a hike. Head to the beach. Or pack a picnic. All it takes is a nice bottle of refreshing white wine and some creativity to feel like I’ve successfully checked another summer day off the list. My wife and I recently had a little backyard picnic and it was the perfect way to unwind on a Friday.

Summer style for me is all about being comfortable, especially when it’s hot. It’s been in nineties, even breaking 100 lately, but cooling down in the evening. The best way to combat the drastic change in temps is to mix in light layers. Lately I’ve been wearing tees with shirts layered over them. It helps me stay warm in the extreme air conditioning (ex: offices, cars, stores, etc.) but it’s easy to roll the sleeves up or remove the shirt entirely when I’m out in the heat. Plus, once the sun goes down it’s a great way to beat any chill your summer night might have.

I love adding pops of color or pieces that are a little unexpected to simple outfits. This outfit is pretty straightforward: denim, grey tee and a chambray utility shirt. But the real fun is the bright pop of neon on these Rockport shoes. Nothing says summer like fun and bright colors so these guys are a great way to celebrate the season. And remember how I said comfort was key? Well these are so comfortable that I can wear them all day and into the night without worry of any pinching or discomfort, even when I’m only wearing no-show socks. They seriously cannot be beat.
