Successful Styling Is In The Details

I’m a sucker for a chambray shirt. So when I stumble across one that’s combined with one of my other favorite things, a nice bold gingham check, I add it to my bag and wait patiently (yeah right!) for it to turn up on my doorstep. The pocket details and the placket stitching give the feel that it was quite expensive when really I got it for less than $40. I thought the indigo next to the black would look good but seeing it in pictures the colors are so striking and I love it. It’s nice how you can take two casual pieces, a gingham chambray and a black jogger and with some minor tweaks make it seem like it’s more than it really is. Button the collar all the way up, roll the sleeves ever so slightly, add a black leather wingtip and stand in front of a giant succulent–it’s as simple as that. But in all seriousness, finding a succulent isn’t imperative but it does make you look so much cooler. The minute I stepped away I looked like a fool. No for real, what I love is taking simple pieces and styling them in a way that creates a cohesive look without too much fuss. I spend a lot of time following other Instagram accounts and blogs to get inspired for my own looks and that’s what it always boils down–attention to the details.
