Combining styles and creating a cohesive space can be difficult enough when you’re decorating on your own. Add in another individual’s taste and things can get downright impossible. My wife and I have similar styles with distinct differences so when we moved into our apartment decorating became a delicate dance. If you find decorating with your significant other or your roommate to be a pain try this little game if you will.
Bored last night and ever the shopping addicts we started shopping to replace our rug (poor thing–we’ve only had it for 5 months). To make it interesting we decided to make a game of it. Here were the rules:
- The rug had to be 5′ x 8′ (the size of our current rug in our living room)
- It had to be under $300
I found mine first, locked them in and had my wife go next. She decided to break her own rule (rule #2) and pushed her budget to $500… almost as if this was real life… She also prefaced and explained that all of hers would be featured on dark wood floors, of which our apartment does not have. Regardless, here were the results.
CB2
I loved the graphic quality of this FAMILY rug. I think it would a punch of personality to any living room and who doesn’t love family? My wife’s is a hard choice to pass up. I am personally a sucker for anything mustard yellow and the modern stripe is a simple pattern that would fit in any living room. Better yet? She followed the rules on this one (it’s on sale for $299).
West Elm
The color and shapes on mine are what drew me to my choice (and it’s sale sticker). It’s bright and bold but subdued enough to easily style a room with and you can’t beat it’s sale price of $119.99! The thing I love about my wife’s is how plush it looks. There is nothing better than a nice fluffy rug under your feet and it’s minimalist quality is something that would fit into any home (with or without the dark wood floors of my wife’s fantasy).
