So back in August I bought tomato plants for my apartment. Just two small potted tomato plants from Home Depot. They grew and grew and even sprouted a blossom or two. Eventually one small tomato (we’re talking small) grew. Unfortunately, I touched it and it broke off the stem, so I took a bite out of it. While it tasted disgusting (I think because it was the size of a marble) it was one of the coolest things. Alas, those plants are no longer with us as my wife and I went on our honeymoon and I left the plants in the care of my parents who killed them.
Spring/Summer is upon us and with that I decided to buy two new plants and with no imminent long vacations on the horizon (damn) they should survive. I demand to have a homegrown tomato salad this summer one way or another. Best thing on a summer day in Southern California–A few heirloom tomatoes sliced up with a little olive oil, salt and pepper and you are good to go. Stay tuned people… it’s coming.
NEXT ADDITION TO THE BALCONY GARDEN: Mint (I can taste the Mojitos now…)
